Ravi Shankar is an Indian yogic instructor and a spiritual figure who was born on May 13, 1956. He is commonly referred to as Gurudev, Guruji, or Sri Sri (an honorific).
He began working as an apprentice for Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the creator of Transcendental Meditation, in the middle of the 1970s. He disassociated himself from Transcendental Meditation (TM) in 1981 and established the Art of Living organization.

Vishalakshi and R.S. Venkat Ratnam welcomed Ravi Shankar into the world in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu. He is Bhanumathi Narasimhan's brother. He was given the name "Ravi" (a popular Indian name meaning "sun") since he was born on a Sunday and "Shankar" in honor of Adi Shankara, an eighth-century Hindu saint who shared Ravi Shankar's birthday. Sudhakar Chaturvedi was a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi and served as Ravi Shankar's first mentor. He was an Indian Vedic scholar.
