Mr. Erickson, who served as head of Florida`s American Cancer Society, died in Baptist Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The stage, screen and television actor had been in the hospital`s care ”for quite some time,” she said.
He had been ill since last March, his brother-in-law, W.T. Cooper, said.
”He didn`t feel too well for the past year or two, but he didn`t complain,” said his agent, Jimmy McHugh, who described Mr. Erickson as a
”very wonderful man and kind man, a great lover of acting and the theater, constantly loyal to acting and to the acting profession.”
Born William Wycliff Anderson in October, , in Alameda, Calif., Mr. Erickson attended the University of California at Los Angeles, beginning his career as a singer with the Ted Fio Rita orchestra.
Mr. Erickson later appeared on stage in productions, including Shakespeare`s ”A Midsummer Night`s Dream.” He then joined the comedy team of Olsen and Johnson.

Leif Erickson, a one-time band vocalist and trombone player who became a prominent film actor and appeared in dozens of movies and television shows during more than 40 years, died Wednesday evening in Pensacola, Fla., after a struggle with cancer.
He was
Erickson’s daughter, Susan, said he died in Baptist Hospital, where he had been for more than a week while he and his wife, Anne, were staying at their Pensacola home. The couple also have a home in Malibu.
