    Laurence David Kramer (June 25, 1935 – May 27, 2020) was an American playwright, author, film producer, public health advocate, and gay rights activist. He began his career rewriting scripts while working for Columbia Pictures, which led him to London, where he worked with United Artists. There he wrote the screenplay for the film Women in Love (1969) and received an Academy Award nomination for his work.

    In 1978, Kramer introduced a controversial and confrontational style in his novel Faggots, which earned mixed reviews and emphatic denunciations from elements within the gay community for Kramer's portrayal of what he characterized as shallow, promiscuous gay relationships in the 1970s.

    Larry D. Kramer (born June 23, 1958) is an American legal scholar serving as the president and vice chancellor of the London School of Economics since April 2024. Previously, Kramer served as president of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation from 2012 through 2023.[1] Prior to that role, he was the Dean of Stanford Law School (2004–2012). He is a scholar of both constitutional law and civil procedure.[2]

    Kramer was born on June 23, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois. Kramer attended Brown University, where he graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in psychology and religious studies with membership in Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated Order of the Coif and cum laude from the University of Chicago Law School in 1984.[4][5]

    Kramer clerked for Judge Henry Friendly of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (1984–85) and U.S. Supreme Court Justice William J. Brennan Jr. (1985–86).[6]
