Dmitri Alexeev entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory at the age of six. After graduating he studied with Dmitri Bashkirov and thereafter won prizes in several major competitions including first prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition, the first such achievement by a Russian artist. Since then he has enjoyed a top-level international career and has appeared as a recitalist and as a soloist with the major orchestras throughout Europe, Japan, Australasia, the Far East and the United States.
His recent and forthcoming engagements include the London Symphony Orchestra with Pappano, the St. Petersberg Philharmonic Orchestra with Temerkanov on tour including Carnegie Hall, and again more recently at the opening of the new Sage Concert Hall in Gateshead. In August 2004 he gave the world premiere of Penderecki's Piano Concerto in Bejing. The conductors he has worked with includes Ashkenazy, Boulez, Bychkov, Dorati, Gergiev, Giulini, Jansons, Muti, Rozhdestvensky, Salonen, Tilson Thomas and the late Klaus Tennstedt.

The Russian pianist, Dmitri [Dimitri, Dmitry] Alexeev [Alexeyev] (born: Dmitrij Konstantinovič Alekseev), began to play the piano at the age of 5. One year later his talent took him to the Moscow Central Music School and then to the Moscow Conservatoire, where his professor was the eminent Soviet pianist Dmitri Bashkirov. Whilst pursuing graduate studies, he participated in several international competitions, capturing top honours at the 1969 Marguerite Long Competition in Paris, at the 1970 George Enescu Competition in Bucharest, and at the 1974 Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. In 1975 he was unanimously awarded first prize at the Leeds International Competition in England.
In the 1970’s Dmitri Alexeev made his debut in London, Vienna, Chicago and New York. Since then Dmitri Alexeev has made concert tours throughout Europe, the USA, Scandinavia, Japan, Australia and Hong Kong, appearing at the most important musical centres of the world. He returns regularly to Russia and plays frequently with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra under Yuri Temirkanov both at home and on tour. He has performed, among others, at the Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Prague Spring and Maggio Musicale (Florence) Festivals, and has collaborated on chamber music with artists such as Mstislav Ro
